  1. We sit on the North-easternmost corner of Central America. Geographically, we are a Central American state but culturally we are soooo Caribbean! We have great flavor. Its time for you to come visit us!
  2. Thanks to Blue Bird busses (American school busses) we have public transportation traversing our four major highways!
  3. There is absolutely no difference between the terms Dukunu and Tamalitos. They are absolutely the same “corn cakes” and they absolutely are the same delicious! Yum!
  4. Tamales or Bollos! There is one small difference. When making the tamales, the corn is strained. The truth is, they are both magic to every corn-lovers palate!
  5. In Belize, we eat CHICKEN! Lots and lots of chicken – in every flavour and in every palate-exploding way! For a population of approximately 350,000 inhabitants, according to this website http://www.belizepoultry.com, “Belize ranks as one of the highest consumers of Chicken meat in the Western hemisphere, with a per capita consumption hovering around 110 pounds per person per year during the past five years.” Whew! Do the math!
  6. Belizeans will argue about whose meat pies are the best – but only when they have eaten 3 or 4 of them, and preferably in the mornings! The fact is, these little things are marvelously addictive! Watch out, they will threaten your diet for certain!
  7. We don’t have a dollar bill. We have a dollar coin. On all our money one will certainly notice the image of Queen Elizabeth the second – a younger Queen!

8.  We speak creole in Belize. Its an English creole. Meaning, that if you speak English and we speak it slow enough you may just get what we are saying. However, the term/word BROKE, in creole can mean 2 things: Bruk = broken, and Bruk = bankrupt! For example…

“Di chair bruk” (The cheer is broken)

And…

A Taiyad bruk!” (I am tired of being poor! or I am tired of having no money!)

  1. Another interesting word (and sound you would hear around Belize is the words or term “BRUK DONG”.

Take a look…“Di house di BRUK DONG!” (The house is falling apart or breaking down)

and…

“Mek we jam to this BRUK DONG! Lets dance to this   “bruk dong” – a genuine Belizean musical piece!
